nation s attention. her work led to the passage of 50 bill prospecting national parks and removing billboards and junk yards from the highways. her work was more than just wildflowers. but i was reminded of the inability of some commentators to see the real work of first ladies this week when i read a piece in politico magazine calling first lady michelle obama a feminist nightmare. and that s why my letter this week is to the washington reporter who wrote that story, michelle coddle. dear michelle, are you serious? you and your handful of feminist sources claim that first lady obama is not a feminist because she says her most important job is being mom in chief to her two daughters. in a week when right-wing hatred of the president forced a nuclear change in the very rules of the senate, your advice to the first lady is to come roaring out of the white house battling for reproductive rights? you wring your hands about the first lady s, quote, safely and
names. look at this, joe. this president, i think, has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people. what does it say about the college co-ed susan fluke who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? what does that make her? it makes her a slut, right? it makes her a prostitute. four more years of obama will end america, the country we love as we know it. we have a name for michelle, mucho. mooch, mooch, moochelle obama. when i was younger, i would call people names but when i would grow and really want to get something done, you do a little more than just name call, particularly ugly names. well, when you don t have a plan, you don t have a vision,
months ago. it s the kind of nimble two-step reverse that political consultants dream about. but is anybody else buying it? joining me now is michelle coddle. thanks for coming on the show. thanks, rev. michelle, is it just a coincidence as christie gets up for 2016 he just happens to reverse himself and veto a gun ban that right-wingers are against? very little in politics at this level is a coincidence. talking to a veteran of presidential campaign today, he points out there are some issues that you cannot get on the wrong side of the base on and second amendment rights is one of those issues. chris christie knows this, so he has to be very careful as he s going forward here with his eye on the base in 2016. he s got to have the base to get through the nominating process. another example is last year he praised president obama s leadership on hurricane sandy. listen to this.
become a litmus test of whether you re a serious mainstream republican or not. you never want the top of the ticket to be the measure and a bad measure of whether other republicans can get elected or not. so this has got to play itself out for a few more days. do you or don t you agree with mitt romney that the 47% of the country isn t worth bothering about? that is going to be asked of every single republican candidate up and down the ticket, any time a reporter comes close to them. that s one problem. the other problem is that, you know, the supposed cure-all here, the panacea, is that all he has to do is talk about the economy and he ll be fine. the problem is mitt romney has been talking about the economy for the last 18 months or so. and he hasn t made the sale. it s not just about his plan. the sale that hasn t been made is the idea that this president is to blame for everything. he may be to blame for some of it. that s what republicans would say. but actually, if you look at th
the tape, however, confirms his character. he s the candidate of the rich, by the rich, for the rich i don t see how he becomes a candidate at the 100%. well, trouble is what he s in, because michelle, a new reuters poll shows that romney was seriously hurt by this tape. it says that 43% of americans said they view him less favorably, and he wasn t doing great in the first place, they view him less favorably after seeing those tapes. well, romney already had a problem that most americans didn t have a good sense of him, who he cared for or what he stood for. so for a lot of americans, this big hullabaloo was their first introduction to the governor. and it didn t help that even his own team came out swinging at him after this. you know, republicans were quick to pile on. so he is going to have to do a great deal of back-pedaling to make up for this. and the fact is, it wasn t some foul play here. he was talking to people that he wanted to donate to his
