An 18-year-old Jacksonville, Florida, woman died in an early morning car crash on Interstate 95 Saturday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Trooper D.J. Brake said this afternoon he has drawn up criminal summonses for the driver of the vehicle, who sustained trauma and is currently hospitalized in Greenville. Another occupant in the 2001 Acura SUV sustained a shoulder injury and possible neck injury.
Brake said the crash occurred shortly before 3:15 a.m. as Angela Vasquez, 21, of Jacksonville, Florida, was driving north near the 168 mile marker about five miles from Roanoke Rapids at a speed unsafe for the rainy and wet conditions. The trooper estimated her speed at the time of the crash was approximately 110 miles per hour.
