Unfit magazines use Thinkerbeat Reader to “chart… the authors that we thought did really well with a story submission.” But these are not stories they bought – six days ago they tweeted out a link to the list of stories they rejected. The page had names, titles, and a rating between one and five stars. One problem: none of the authors had given them permission to do so.

This November, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, a professional organization for genre authors, dropped a bombshell announcement that shook the science fiction community: For several years, author Alan Dean Foster had been trying, without success, to get paid for several major tie-in novels adapting movies from the Star Wars and Alien franchises. While Disney has kept the books in print with other publishers, with Titan handling Alien and Del Rey on Star Wars, Foster says he hasn’t received royalty payments for new editions. So, he had turned to SFWA for help, and the #DisneyMustPay hashtag was born.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie will take “great influence” from the games
Disney and Lucasfilm announced this week that Patty Jenkins will be directing Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, for release in 2023. The film won’t be a straight adaptation of the classic space games, but the Wonder Woman director says they’re still part of the fabric of the story.
Speaking to IGN, Jenkins confirmed the movie will be based on a new script, drawing from the established legacy of storytelling around the Rogue Squadron. “We’re doing something original with great influence from the games and the books,” She said. “There’s a lot of things being acknowledged and understood about the greatness of all of those things, but yes, it’s an original story and I’m so psyched to do it.”
