Downtown North East sees boom as new businesses open, old ones expand
NORTH EAST Michael Yori was still a teenager when he and his then-girlfriend, Lynn Yori, opened Michael s Pizzeria on South Lake Street in November 1987.
Yori, now 52, has seen a lot of businesses come and go from downtown North East over the past three and a half decades. He s got one word for what he s seeing now, though: A boom. I don t think we ve seen this in 20, 25 years, where it seems like all of a sudden everybody wants to do something nice and make North East the place you want to show up to and be here, said Yori, who also owns Yori Wine Cellars. The more businesses that come, the more people it attracts and that benefits all of us.

Tuesday is National Pizza Day, and Erie s pizza shop owners have cause to raise a slice in celebration.
While many restaurants are struggling because of state-ordered closings and seating restrictions through the COVID-19 pandemic, pizzeria sales generally have been out-of-the-box, especially during the state-ordered shutdown of non-essential businesses this past March. The Erie store got so busy during COVID-19 that, even with the pub closed, we were bringing in 25% over normal, said John Bellucci, owner of John s Wildwood Pizzeria. The pizzeria is part of a Pub & Pie partnership with Erie Brewing Co. in Knowledge Park in Harborcreek Township.
Bellucci s original pizzeria in Edinboro has been closed since summer 2019, when it was heavily damaged by fire. It will reopen, but not just yet.
