Police: Hanover-area man scammed more than $300K from 30-plus people

An Adams County man scammed more than $300,000 from people using a variety of stories to convince them to financially engage with him, charging documents allege.
Michael William Hertz, 27, now of no fixed address, remains in the Adams County jail on $100,000 bail, according to a Monday news release from the office of Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett.
Charging documents filed by Conewago Township Police in Adams County state that Hertz used a number of scams to trick his own acquaintances as well as online buyers out of cash.

The Conewago Township Police Department has filed charges against a local man who they say scammed residents out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Michael William Hertz, 27, formerly of Conewago Township, Adams County, was arrested for allegedly stealing in excess of $300,000 from over 30 victims, most of whom he knew personally. The alleged incidents took place from December 2018 until March 2021, according to a news release issued by Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett.
Hertz is accused of using various schemes to defraud victims of money and, in some instances, gain access to their personal bank accounts in order to transfer money to his own bank account without permission, according to the release.
