Holiday park owner pulls plans for timber lodges );

PLANS to introduce 24 timber lodges at Swiss Farm holiday park in Henley have been withdrawn.
Henley Town Council was one of a number of organisations that had opposed the development, saying it would be unacceptable in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Now managing director Joseph Borlase has pulled the plans, saying he needs more time to take the objections into consideration.
But he reaffirmed his belief that the development would be “a positive contribution to the biodiversity, amenity and economic productivity of Henley”.
Mr Borlase said: “We have decided to withdraw the lodge application to allow us time to investigate the issues raised by several interest groups and neighbouring estate owners during the consultation stage.

Large tents have been donated to Kamali’i Elementary, Kihei Charter School, Kihei Elementary and Lokelani Intermediate this week to provide outdoor classroom space during the COVID-19 pandemic, state officials announced.
Trade Winds Productions/USA Network, which filmed the reality show “Temptation Island” on Maui primarily at a Wailea resort donated six 20-by-30-foot tents to the four Kihei schools, offering “ventilated, shaded outdoor safe space to accommodate in-person classes while getting our keiki back to school this spring,” state Rep. Tina Wildberger of South Maui said Monday in a news release.
Wildberger’s business, Kihei Ice Inc., covered the cost of installation.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - As the state Department of Education works to bring students back to in-person learning, some public schools on Maui are setting up tents to teach classes outdoors.
The âTemptation Islandâ TV show that filmed on Maui recently donated six event tents to Kihei schools: Kamalii Elementary, Lokelani Intermediate, Kihei Elementary and Kihei Public Charter School.
The tents are worth about $20,000.

In an effort to reduce poverty in their cities, eleven mayors have signed on to a push to guarantee abasic income for the more than 5 million people they collectively represent.
The first U.S. city to move forward on this initiative was Stockton, California, but the effort has gained more steam given the unemployment uptick due to Coronavirus-related government shutdowns of the private sector.
While the policy is well-intentioned, it’s far from the most effective way to eradicate poverty in America’s cities and, in the long-term, could have unintended consequences on the exact people the mayors hope to help.
