[UPDATED] Boy, 14, electrocuted at refinery
A 14-year-old boy who police said tried to steal copper from the Guaracara refinery has been electrocuted.
Michael “Mickey” Sooknanan, who lived at Cotton Hill Road in Mayo, would have turned 15 on March 7.
Sooknanan dropped out of primary school (Bonne Aventure Presbyterian) a few years ago, and never attended secondary school.
A media statement from Petrotrin said at about 9 am on Wednesday, while on mobile patrol, Amalgamated security guards found the body at the top of an electricity pole on the Pointe-a-Pierre compound.
The release did not reveal Sooknanan’s name. It said preliminary investigations show that the individual entered the compound without permission. He scaled the pole, and in so doing, encountered the live high-tension power line and tragically lost his life.
