Following Monday’s news that “Prodigal Son” will not be returning for a third season on Fox, fans could at least take comfort in the fact that Tuesday brought a new episode of the second (and now final) season of the Tom Payne and Michael Sheen-led thriller even if it was an extra discomforting installment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has officially decided not to give executive producer Greg Berlanti’s crime thriller drama
Prodigal Son a third season renewal. The cancellation comes ahead of the Tom Payne and Michael Sheen-led series’ second season finale that is slated to air next week on May 18. It’s unclear if Warner Bros. Television is planning to shop the series elsewhere or not as it has been doing better in digital viewing than in broadcast.
The outlet’s source noted that it was a difficult decision to make for the network as they were a fan of the show’s creative choices. However,
