As crews continue to battle a wildfire in the Halifax area of Nova Scotia, firefighters over five hours away in Cape Breton are ready and waiting to assist on a moment s notice.
Cape Breton Regional Municipality is trying to decide whether it's better to hire more fire safety inspectors or contract out that service to the Nova Scotia fire marshal's office.
The fire service union fought for four years to obtain a work audit outlining bullying and harassment aimed at firefighters in CBRM. The report says 80 per cent of those surveyed said their employer does not prevent harassment, discrimination and violence from managers.
