Berke’s Natural Resource Legacy Continues - And Response (3) Thursday, April 29, 2021
As Andy Berke moves on to the next chapter of his career, recent news regarding the Tennessee Valley Authority decision to eliminate coal-derived energy by 2035, should be a reminder to constituents of how proactive his thinking was in terms of natural resources and environmental stewardship.
In 2010, Senator Berke took an ostensibly controversial position by opposing the mining of coal through mountaintop removal. His decision was principled and well grounded in the economic reality surrounding coal as a marginal and very costly (in terms of environmental impact and air and water pollution) energy source.
Jerry Sear And Sear’s Shoe Store Have Served The Community Well Monday, April 5, 2021
Thank you, Jerry Sear and Sear’s Shoe Store.
If you take a minute to imagine the perfect combination of kindness, work ethic, creativity and ethical small business talent, the picture that comes into focus is Mr. Jerry Sear.
Sear’s Shoe Store and Jerry Sear have served our community through five generations of my family.
The memories that I have from childhood to the present of going to see Jerry, and the treasure hunt at the shoe store for the perfect pair of shoes, brings a smile to my face.
Did You Drop A Wallet At Erlanger? - And Response Wednesday, March 17, 2021
If you dropped a wallet outside Erlanger Medical mall (parking garage) I found it. I didn t see any security to give it to, but the volunteer guy who drives that cart up and down the breezeway offering rides had just come back down so I gave it to him.
I asked a few people in the area if they had dropped it, but they said they had not. The wallet was next to a small or mid-sized red car parked right across from the medical mall entrance. I was leaving after finishing up an appointment when I happened upon it next to the car. I didn t check for identification or anything, I didn t want to appear to be going through it. I asked the volunteer cart guy if he could turn it in. I m guessing he probably took it to the information desk or security.

Forced Vehicle Emissions Testing - The Gift That Keeps On Giving - And Response Monday, December 21, 2020
While the governor urges citizens to isolate and to wear masks; and while Tennessee doctors beg for a mask mandate; and while state officials say Tennessee hospitals cannot survive another COVID surge during the holidays, there is almost a glimmer of logic contained in the postcard you will be receiving from the state urging you to renew your vehicle registration online, due to COVID.almost.
One small catch, unfortunately. The state will still require you to get in your car, drive to an emissions testing facility, engage in a face-to-face interaction with a stranger and pay nine American dollars for the privilege.
