So, the latest step has been taken in the decades long battle against the gangs, organised crime and hardened criminals.
The government has introduced a thing called Firearm Prohibition Orders.
It bans high-risk convicted Kiwis from owning firearms and enabling the seizure of assets obtained through crime.
It’s very similar to the idea floated a few weeks ago by National’s Simeon Brown, but it goes further than Simeon’s proposal in that it includes all criminals and not just gang members. That hasn’t stopped Simon Bridges from saying Labour has just copied them.

Once upon a time, there was a group of valiant knights in search of a new place to call home. They settled near a plentiful river, where they established a small settlement and built their families.
The community grew and thrived and in an ode to the original settlers, the township was named Knights.

In some of the most testing of circumstances for tourism operators across the country, Whanganui s tourism sector has come out on top, showing the most substantial growth of any district over 2020. Ethan Griffiths finds out what s sparked it.
It was revealed this month that the district s tourism spend grew 4 per cent over the 2020 calendar year - despite New Zealand admitting almost zero tourists through its border, as well as grappling with lockdown restrictions for almost six weeks between March and May.
