unfortunately to some degree we have listened to that. north korea picked it up and other nations are picking it up. we have a lot of work to do, the sanctions are a good move, doing exercises are a good move but it s not a clean win on our part by showing our resolves. jon: other analysts say the sanctions don t amount to much they are not going to cause much pain for the north korean government. we have to wait and see. we have to see what businesses they are going to target. all the businesses are owned by elements of the north korean leadership. if we can cut down the money supply, they didn t like that, they screamed when we do that. we backed off for diplomatic reasons. i think the administration is taking the right tack, it expects how far they go, who they target and how long they keep the pressure on. jon: thanks, michael. thank you. jenna: tropical storm bonnie just making landfall in south florida and making a beeline for
i m jon scott. nuclear north korea trepbgt the u.s. with physical response to our naval exercises with south korea this weekend. the north is accused of sinking a south korean warship in march which called for sanctions against the rogue nation. let s talk about it. physical response, michael, what are they threatening here? the truth is nobody knows. back in march the reason we are having this crisis, back in march they sung a south korean navy ship and murdered 46 sailors. since then they kept their head down as they usually do after they do something provocative. we have waited a number of months to send in some ships to have naval exercises. the north koreans say if we do it there is going to be a ph- physical response. i don t think they are going to try to take out any ships, but there are other things they can do in terms of attacks.
track, the train hits the car, it happens and almost never ends well. back to you. jenna: harris, thank you very much. we re going to move from chicago now to michigan. a group of firefighters in ann arbor are losing their jobs because the city says it simply can t afford to pay them but at the very same time, the same city is buying a sculpture that cost about $850,000. so what s really up with that? joining us right now is likal michael lafave, director of fiscal policy there, we invited the mayor to join us, he said yes but right before the show he decided no. that sometimes happens but we re going to move on with the topic, anyway. michael, the mayors says essentially that they have set aside, the city, this money for this art project, they cannot take the money from the art project and put it towards something else. what do you say? the mayor just this morning said on the news that it s a designated fund, but i know that a designated fund can become an undesignated fund. this
political class defines pretty. jenna: michael, one quick final question here: this sculpture is done by a german artist, so the city had paid $850,000 for this german artist to put up this sculpture. would it make a difference to you if the artist was a local artist? not at all. it might make a difference to other state officials or even residents of ann arbor, but i think we re a global citizen and competitive contracting for the best art can actually keep pencils sharp and people focused and perhaps produce better art. i think the key issue here is whether or not we want to have the political class making these artistic decisions for us. jenna: michael, appreciate you joining us today. i know you had quite a drive to get to the studio. michael, keep us updated on what happens. my pleasure, i will, thank you. jon: when most of us hear the word auto industry we think of the motor city but now southern states are taking some of the press eg
