JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Tuesday was the fourth day in a row that Florida broke its daily COVID hospitalization record, with a little more than 12,000 people hospitalized, according to the Florida Hospital Association.
The surge in COVID patients at area hospitals has forced some doctors to postpone elective surgeries again. Dr. Michael Koren is a part of a practice of cardiologists who practice at different hospitals in Northeast Florida. He said resources, like nurses, are being moved from working in operating rooms to working in COVID wards. He said this has forced them to postpone some elective procedures.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla Hospitals are filling up by the week with COVID patients and doctors in Jacksonville can’t stress enough for the community to get vaccinated.
“The vaccines are tremendously effective and the most important message is that everyone should be vaccinated, said Dr. Michael Koren, CEO of Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research.
But what if you are already fully vaccinated is it possible to still get COVID-19? Koren said the vaccines are quite effective but not 100% effective.
“We found that the vaccines were 95% effective but 100% effective against the most severe illness so to expect that there will be breakthrough cases that those cases tend to be very mild and severe, said Dr. Koren.

CDC looking into possible heart issues in some young vaccine recipients

The CDC is putting out a warning about possible heart issues arising in vaccinated teenagers. The number of cases at this point was described as relatively few by the CDC’s advisory group on immunization practices.
The group also points out it’s still unclear whether the heart issues are directly related to the vaccine.
The condition is known as myocarditis. The reports says most cases appear to be mild and the CDC is following up on these cases. They have been seen in patients who took the Moderna and Pfizer shots.
