/ This photo of the marquee of the Holiday Twin Drive-In Theatre in Fort Collins was taken in July of 1997. More than 20 years later, the marquee still looks a lot like that, and the theater is still up and running. It’s one of only about eight drive-in theaters still open in Colorado. Most theaters were forced to close their doors during the pandemic, but drive-ins have found new opportunities and new audiences. With spring just around the corner and the state’s handful of drive-in theaters gearing up for the season, KUNC arts reporter Stacy Nick spoke with Michael Kilgore, author of “Drive-Ins of Route 66” and “Drive-Ins of Colorado,” to find out more about our outdoor theater history.
