According to court records, the man stole the car on Feb. 26. The following day, the vehicle was spotted on Highway 10, where a traffic stop was conducted. Video surveillance at the middle school showed the suspect entering the vehicle and driving off.
According to court records, a Detroit Lakes police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a business on Eighth Street in Detroit Lakes, which had just purchased a 2015 Ford F-150 valued at $50,000.
In one case, a Frazee man was sentenced to 59 days in jail for stealing a car from the parking lot of the Detroit Lakes Middle School. Video surveillance at the school showed the man entering the vehicle and driving off.
A neighbor was outside and saw the man come out of his residence holding what looked like an AK-47 style rifle, according to court documents. The man suddenly came running toward the neighbor, aiming the gun toward the man and his house, and coming to within about 12 feet of him.
