More residences proposed for Bath and Racquet site | Sarasota

1 month ago Share Neighbors have voiced opposition to the prospect of additional residential space, but the developer said the changes would reduce the intensity of the project. In March, a majority of the City Commission praised a proposal for redeveloping the Bath and Racquet Club property as a mixed-use hub with up to 207 apartments, approving a land use change to facilitate the project. Less than two months later, the team behind that proposal is seeking permission to revise its plans. On April 21, the city held a virtual community workshop to discuss a proposed revision that would allow for as many as 277 residential units in exchange for eliminating up to 70,000 square feet of commercial space.

Bath and Racquet redevelopment clears hurdle | Sarasota

1 month ago Share City officials praised changes to a once-contentious proposal, though some residents continued to raise concerns about traffic. The City Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize a rezone application for the Bath and Racquet Fitness Club property, a necessary step to facilitate plans for a mixed-use complex with 207 apartments at 2170 Robinhood St. The commission’s 5-0 vote came 13 months after the board rejected a previous iteration of the residential-focused development proposal. Although some residents near the project site continued to express concerns about traffic and residential density, city officials praised the design team for making revisions that responded to concerns about the development’s compatibility with surrounding neighborhoods.

Revised Bath and Racquet plan earns warmer response | Sarasota

2 months ago Share The Planning Board offered praise for a reconfigured proposal to add 207 residential units to the fitness center site. An updated proposal to rezone the Bath and Racquet Club site to facilitate a residential redevelopment earned a unanimous endorsement from the city’s Planning Board on Jan. 13. The Planning Board meeting, the first in a series of public hearings required for the project to move forward, had a markedly different tone than a 2019 meeting reviewing a previous iteration of the project. Then more than a dozen residents appeared to criticize the project as out-of-scale with the surrounding neighborhoods, and the Planning Board voted 3-2 to recommend denying the proposal.
