Bodies of Missing Canoers Recovered in Lake Winnebago

By Rob Sussman Apr 1, 2021 5:15 PM FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) The bodies of 21-year-olds Michael Gohde and Dakota Goldapske, the two canoers who went missing after their canoe capsized in bad weather on Lake Winnebago Monday night, have been recovered. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office announced the recoveries on Facebook. Goldapske’s body was recovered Wednesday. The body found today is believed to be that of Gohde. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt said Tuesday that the two canoers had contacted police at about 8:30 pm on Monday to report they were in distress. Within minutes, their canoe had capsized and thrown them into the lake. The canoers managed to stay in contact with dispatchers for around 45 minutes, even while in the water.

Rescue teams recover second body from Lake Winnebago in Fond du Lac Co

Fond du Lac Reporter FOND DU LAC - The body of a second man who drowned after a canoe capsized Monday night in the rough waters of Lake Winnebago has been recovered.  The first man recovered Wednesday afternoon was positively identified as Dakota Goldapske, and the victim recovered today is presumed to be Michael Gohde, according to Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt. Gohde was found approximately 150 yards from were Goldapske was recovered, in about 8 feet of water.   Sheriff and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources search teams used sonar devices that produced images that allowed divers to locate the two men.
