View Comments Tailgate Knoxville, a one-stop shop for University of Tennessee apparel, has reached its tail end on Market Square, leaving downtown Knoxville without a store specializing in Vols gear.  The store closed its doors at 23 Market Square in late March with a heartfelt message from store manager Michael Galyean.  I hope anytime that you walked into my store you saw the pride that me and my staff both have for the customer experience, Galyean said in an Instagram video. So, this may feel like a break up. It kind of is. I hope we can still be friends after this. But all in all, we thank each and every one of you personally from the bottom of our orange hearts.

Texas Tech taps Michigan State dean as new provost Special to the Avalanche-Journal Ronald L. Hendrick, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University, has been appointed Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Texas Tech, effective July 1. He replaces Michael Galyean, who recently announced his retirement after serving in the role the last five years. In addition to his role as dean, Hendrick is a professor in the Department of Forestry and was appointed to both positions in 2016. He oversees all academic, research and outreach efforts of CANR, which includes 12 academic departments and schools, the Institute of Agricultural Technology, MSU AgBioResearch and MSU Extension (MSU Extension).

Chancellor Mitchell discusses 87TH Legislative Session priorities

TH Legislative Session, addressing several top priorities. Mitchell provided insight to those priorities and the Legislative session. The Texas Legislative Session is held every other year, Mitchell said. All state agencies converge on Austin to testify before the Senate Finance Committee and the House of Appropriations to walk through their budgets and explain additional needs or wants. Some agencies, like Tech, testify before the Higher Education Committee as well. The Senate Finance Committee and House of Appropriations testimonies focus on the budget, Mitchell said. The primary ways the state raises money for the budget is through sales tax revenue, which were impacted by COVID-19 and through the severance tax revenues, which comes from oil and gas production.
