Jeff San Francisco police were called to the shotwell near 18th street around ten in the morning because a man was seen with a large knife in his hands. When officers arrived they saw the man holding a large kitchen knife about ten to 12 inches long. Police say they tried to negotiate with the man but he would not put the knife down. Officers then used a bean bag gun to subdue him but after several shots he was unphased. Police say the man became aggressive and lunged at officers who were then forced to shoot him. He died later at the hospital. Chief greg suhr says there will be a full investigation of the latest officer involved shooting. Chief greg suhr we have been working very hard to try and figure out a way to contend with folks who have edged weapons or other weaponstrying to create time and distance and apparantly this event unfolded very quickly and we will be looking to find out why it went just as it did.
