holds, obama and his enemies. if general flynn has nothing to hide concerning russian interference, the probes taking place, why would probes taking place, why is there an immunity. there is a concern. he may be thinking back to somebody like scooter libby who worked for vice president dick cheney and caught up in an investigation that was political. mr. libby did nothing wrong, committed no crime but was put in jail because of a process climb and a politicized investigation. he could be thinking of that. we just don t know at this point of that s why it s important for facts to come out and facts need to come out for sure. do you think, jonathan, general flynn asking for immunity is something that should be granted and worth it if investigators and those working on this probe feels there s a bigger fish to catch. this is something congressman
why is there a drawback from the senate intel committee and others not willing to even play with the immunity card right now. think about it. the big fish that flynn would ultimately hand to the intelligence committees and fbi would be president trump. there s not much of a bigger fish than president trump. it s unlikely he would do that. unless he did do something, that s just unclear. i don t know if that involving this big story to tell. the other thing is there is, in fact, an fbi on going investigation into these matters, into whether the trump advisers had attempted to collude with the russians to interfere with the u.s. elections. that really gives the senate and the house intelligence committees pause to give anybody immunity because the fbi has to conduct this investigation. if flynn is one of the people they re looking into, you don t want to necessarily give that away unless, of course, flynn needed immunity and wanted to
key adviser. i have now decided to recuse myself. the president accused president obama of wiretapping trump tower during the election. the fbi is investigating russia s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and russia s efforts. today i briefed the president on the concerns that i had. bombshell reporting from the new york times. two white house officials were involved in feeding house chairman devin nunes information. the wall street journal is now reporting, general michael flynn offering to testify in and challenge for immunity.
when you write your presidential memoirs, this is not the way you want to leave. your national security adviser asking for immunity before you hit day 100. the one who was fired. the one who was fired, yeah. i will say this. people were privately saying, both republicans and democrats in the transition, that while they were more impressed than they expected to be by trump s appointments, flynn was an exception to that. i suspect david heard a lot of this, too. former republican cabinet members, former democratic cabinet members were all a little anxious about general flynn. and so i think that, you know, historical analogies here would be iran contra, president nixon, vice president nixon at the time, trying to influence the vietnamese peace talks late in 1968. the 68 campaign. and what you often look for in these is the proffer. you look to see who s going to talk first. and this is what s interesting to me about this, is usually at this point in the story, you re still talking
and to have him now asking for immunity, you know, sends this message that there s a there is a fire here of some sort. and what we ve been seeing for the last two or three weeks is the effort to create a lot of clouds, so we can t see the fire. but the flynn story says there is a fire. david axelrod, flynn was of the president s national security adviser, one of his closest advisers, not just in the white house, but on the campaign trail up until six weeks ago. what s your reaction to all of it? he was an integral part of the trump campaign, when the trump campaign was a very trim operation. and as david said, the danger for the white house here is, i mean, the link that will make this a full-blown crisis is if a link can be made between people in the trump campaign organization and russians or others who are familiar with the fact of the hack and what was to come.
