said in a letter that it would not provide some documents about flynn because they were outside the scope of the committee s inquiry, but the white house won t say if flynn broke the law. i don t know what he filled out or did or did not do. reporter: the top democrat in the senate declined to rule out pushing for a subpoena to force flynn to testify. these are extremely, extremely troubling allegations today. reporter: will it be necessary to issue a subpoena? well, we ll see. reporter: and the gop chairman of the senate intelligence committee says the panel wants to question flynn. flynn s role also expected to be highlighted next month when a senate panel hears testimony from former obama justice official sally yates who privately warned trump officials that flynn could be susceptible to russian blackmail. what about sally yates and her allegedly saying michael flynn could be subject to russian blackmail? we ll ask her all questions about russia what, she knew about tr
he is today, he s we ve come a long way, but it does help explain one thing, why his lawyers reach out to the intelligence committees and reportedly made an offer to testify in exchange for immunity and hinted that he had a story to tell and he wanted to tell it, so they apparently understand that they have a problem, and and they were looking for a way to cut their losses. there s no invasion any of the congressional committees are ready to grant him any immunity. nia, let s talk about a little bit more about this. if general flynn did break the law by not reporting those earnings from russia and turkey, that doesn t necessarily prove collusion with russia to influence the presidential election. so what sort of impact will these developments have on the investigation and on the current trump administration? well, you know, in terms of the investigations, and there
secretary of state and the secretary of the army prior to traveling to russia to not only accept that payment but to engage in that activity. i see no evidence that he actually did that. as a former military officer you simply cannot take money from russia, turkey or anybody else, and it appears as if he did take that money. it was inappropriate, and there are repercussions for the violation of law. that was the chairman of the oversight committee jason chaffetz. he s a republican. let s get some insights from our experts and david axelrod, what s your reaction to hearing this with a man who used to lead those chants at donald trump rallies involving hillary clinton lock her up, lock her up. yes. he used to say that. what s your reaction? well, i think, wolf, if you looked up the word irony in the dictionary today, you might find general flynn s picture next to t.clearly when you think about those scenes at the republican convention last summer and where
doesn t appear as if he did. you re saying there are no documents because michael flynn didn t handle this correctly. correct. that s what the law requires. so, basically chaffetz is laying the blame squarely on michael flynn saying that there aren t documents because general flynn did not produce those documents. ultimately though, isn t the white house going to get blame one way or the other? th, after all, were the ones that should have done background vetting of their own advisors, made sure they weren t going to get into a position later on that it comes out that one may have been lying to them. i mean this is public record, his dealings with the turkish government, and also his dinner that he had with vladimir putin. two points, katy, and i think you are absolutely right. one, you will hear the white house likely echo what you just heard from congressman chaffetz, that, look, this is up to michael flynn to provide these documents. and, quite frankly, to seek permission to
explain what happened and the burden doesn t lie on the media and doesn t lie on congress and it doesn t lie on people that have questions about the stuff to try to explain or we all just go away and sean spicer is learning that day by day. there s a hungry pack of press people that are going to say, look, no, the burden is on you to explain why michael flynn didn t disclose his ties to turkey and everything else. the burden is on you to explain why you never vetted this. the burden is on the trump people to explain what happened with paul manafort and what was going on inside of trump tower where he owns an apartment. these are not questions that are going to go away. jose, pam larks thank you for sharing your reporting with us. panel stick around please we have many more questions. so fight to repeal and replace obamacare is heating up on capitol hill. is the trump administration privately bending to conservatives? and could that somehow kill the entire bill? we take a closer look
