Eva Lichtenberger added: We welcome that MEPs agreed to postpone the question of unbundling until the end of next year when the Commission will present a legislative proposal on the relationship between infrastructure and railway services. Unfortunately, the EPP and S&D groups nonetheless managed to include an ambiguous new provision on the separation of financial flows that is open for interpretation. This may keep the Transport Council from concentrating on the implementation of strong and independent regulators in all member states and thereby possibly delay the creation of the Single European Railway Area.

CHEBOYGAN After negotiations with the previous candidate for new Cheboygan City Manager fell through, the Cheboygan City Council members voted Feb. 9 to enter into negotiation with a new candidate.
Current Cheboygan City Manager Tom Eustice is planning on retiring from his position with the city in April. The original plan for the city was to have an assistant city manager in place by the end of November last year, to allow that person to shadow Eustice until his retirement, then step into the city manager position. After those plans ran into several snags, city officials are currently attempting to find the right person to fill Eustice s shoes when he retires.

ALPENA – The regular meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by President Darryl McQuarrie at 6 p.m. on Feb. 9 with 15 members in attendance.
The secretary and treasurer reports from January were read and accepted after review. Tammy gave the bingo report and made a donation. Several committee reports were presented and it was announced that the donated items for the craft basket were on display and only a few things were still needed.
An update on the success of the lasagna dinner was shared with members and Darryl thanked everyone for their help and donation of desserts.
The fish fry schedule for Lent was announced and the Auxiliary will be in charge March 5 and 26.
