“You’ve never heard anything like this!”
That was a common refrain in the early 1920s when the grand movie palaces across the country began to introduce audiences to a new musical invention: the theater pipe organ.
A century later, the same may soon be said at the city of Medford’s historic Chevalier Theatre, where the installation of a 1922 Wurlitzer theater organ is approaching completion.
The theater pipe organ was an early 1900s creation of a British inventor and telephone engineer, Robert Hope-Jones. He called his instrument a Unit Orchestra, because it was designed to imitate and sound of a full orchestra – some 300 instruments worth – at the hands (and feet) of just one person: the organist.

Both the outgoing and incoming governors as well as the Senate President have indicated that marijuana for recreational use will likely be legalized this year. They also believe legalization has been adequately studied and the time is right. Essentially, moving from medicalization and decriminalization to outright legalization will be an endorsement of another addictive substance in addition to tobacco and alcohol.
However, House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi has said he will convene a study commission before deciding whether to proceed. Perhaps this is because he is aware that the issue has never had the benefit of a thorough, evidence-based, independent and objective study.
They have attempted to savage our Democracy and deaden its soul.
As a therapist, my work requires that I take a non-judgmental and open-minded view of other people, their beliefs and aspirations. I believe I have been able to do this throughout the past four years regardless of my personal beliefs.
But the right to free speech stops when it is used to incite the assault on democracy we witnessed on January 6. Trump s actions and words have indeed incited domestic terrorism.
This is not the way any of the many, many Republicans I knew throughout my youth would have acted. Nor is it the way the Democrats with whom they had respectful, collegial, citizen serving relationships would have. Our family benefited immeasurably from the advocacy of both a Democrat and a Republican before my Dad died of a service-connected disability.
