Lawyer argues convicted bookmaker shouldn’t have been indicted on firearms charge; asks, ‘How many workplaces participate in an NCAA pool?’
Updated May 13, 2021;
SPRINGFIELD An attorney for convicted bookmaker David “Chicky” Cecchetelli is waging a constitutional challenge against a federal firearms charge in U.S. District Court, arguing Cecchetelli is a “virtuous citizen” under the law.
Cecchetelli, of Springfield, was arrested in December 2019 during a raid focused on his nephew, Michael Cecchetelli, the admitted East Coast leader of the Latin Kings street gang. While David Cecchetelli has no ties to the Latin Kings, the two shared an apartment on Firglade Avenue and federal agents found ammunition and a gun in the elder’s bedroom, according to court records.
