In the wake of a new study that found deep racial disparities in San Diego police data, community members on Tuesday urged the city to adopt reforms that would limit when and how officers conduct stops and searches practices that disproportionately impact communities of color.
The findings, which showed that people of color especially Black people are stopped, searched and subjected to force more often than their White counterparts, were shared with the City Council during a virtual meeting.
About two dozen speakers said that the study is the latest to show what they already knew: Communities of color in San Diego experience biased-based policing, as well as over-policing.
