Consignment-to-Retail Auto Company Plans First Colorado Hub

CarLotz filed a Form 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, explaining that its “profit-sharing corporate vehicle sourcing partner” has notified CarLotz that it has paused consignments to the company, given the condition of the wholesale vehicle market.
CarLotz declined to share the name of the sourcing partner, citing a legal agreement, but

CarLotz Inc (NASDAQ: LOTZ) issued a company update that s sending shares down sharply on Wednesday morning.
What Happened: A leading corporate vehicle sourcing partner for CarLotz has paused consignments to the company.
In the first three months of 2021, this sourcing partner represented 60% of all cars sold and sourced by CarLotz. In the second quarter to date, the consignment partner represented less than 50% of cars sold and 25% of cars sourced by CarLotz.
“The surge in wholesale vehicle prices and the continuing new car chip shortage continues to place limitations on inventory sourcing throughout the industry,” said CarLotz CEO Michael Bor.

CarLotz is a consignment business for cars in that the company professionally markets and sells cars for its customers, the CEO said.
The company offers financing, warranties and trade-in options for buyers while providing convenience and greater proceeds to sellers than they would otherwise receive via the traditional trade-in process, he said.
CarLotz s business model of offering car sales as a service allows it to capture the value of selling cars without taking on the risks involved with owning the inventory, Bor told Benzinga.
The CarLotz CEO On Growth: CarLotz reported 123% revenue growth in the first quarter, and Bor told Benzinga he expects growth to increase as the company continues to open more hubs. CarLotz opened three new hubs toward the end of the first quarter and plans to open 14 to 16 total in 2021.
