Under the new law, which went into immediate effect, the sale and possession of up to 1 ounce of cannabis is legalized for adults ages 21 and older, with no more than 10 ounces for personal use kept at a person’s residence.
a Louisiana Senate committee passed a bill that would prohibit state and local enforcement of any federal gun control implemented on or after Jan. 1, 2022. Passage into law would take a first step toward stopping federal acts that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms within the state.
Under the proposed law, adults 21 and over could purchase and possess up to one ounce of marijuana. Individuals could also grow up to six cannabis plants for personal use. The legislation would also create a legal and tax structure for the commercial cultivation and retail sale of marijuana. The bill includes provisions for the automatic expungement of past marijuana charges.
The original language would have created a strong prohibition against state or local enforcement of federal gun control. But an amendment created a loophole that will significantly narrow the practical effect of the law even if enacted.
