Ford’s countering of the all-new Toyota Hilux with the incoming new Ranger has gone up another notch with the reported inclusion of a more powerful turbocharged petrol engine.
With the Japanese marque reportedly planning to offer the 3.5-litre badged 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 from the Lexus LS500 and Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in the next generation Hilux in place of the stalwart normally aspirated 4.0-litre, FordAuthority claims the petrol Ranger Raptor will get the twin-blown 3.0 EcoBoost and not the 2.7 EcoBoost V6 used in the F-150 and Bronco.

Tony Wood, one of Australia’s foremost energy experts, recently bought an I-PACE, a Jaguar electric car that can hit 100km/h in under five seconds while playing songs from his Spotify account.
Wood, an analyst at the Grattan Institute think-tank, wanted to explore alternatives to the internal combustion engine and help the planet.
He loves driving the car but has found some practical difficulties. “Getting a charging facility in an apartment building is currently a bit of a chore,” he says.

Victoria’s controversial new electric vehicle tax has been slammed once again, this time by a coalition of 25 organisations with various interests in EV technology.
The group comprised of car manufacturers, infrastructure companies, industry groups and environmentalists penned an open letter to the Victorian government published as a full-page advertisement in Thursday’s edition of The Age.
When introducing its plan to make electric vehicle drivers pay by the kilometre, the Victorian state government said it was about ensuring a fair contribution towards paying for road use, because they werenât paying the fuel excise.
The user-pays system will require drivers to keep a logbook of their travels from July that will then be used to calculate a charge of 2.5 cents/km to be paid when they renew their registration. Records will need to be kept for five years and people who fail to produce records may face charges.
Critics say introducing the policy when the take-up of electric vehicles in Victoria is currently just 0.7% will kill the market before it has the chance to become established.
