Video footage showing a South Carolina-based children’s choir being stopped by a Capitol Police officer from singing the national anthem in the U.S. Capitol has gone viral with millions of views.
Police told the Choir Director to stop “Because this is considered a demonstration and we don’t allow demonstrations in the Capitol.” However, the choir had received permission and approval to sing and were approved by the office of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Three Republican Congress members from South Carolina and Speaker Kevin McCarthy issued a joint statement saying that the Speaker’s office had invited the choir.
