Caohai National Nature Reserve becomes major winter base for migratory birds(1)

Established as a national nature reserve in 1992, Caohai National Nature Reserve covers an area of over 120 square kilometers. During the past years, over 60 people have served as rangers of the reserve, feeding birds, observing bird activities and patrolling in the reserve. Day after day, the torch has been passed from generation to generation among rangers. Thanks to their efforts and support of local authorities, the reserve has become a major winter base for many migratory birds such as black-necked cranes. (Photo/People’s Daily Online) Tourism events were held to promote the culture of the Li and Miao ethnic groups from Dec.12 to 13 in Nanchun Village of Maogan Township, Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County, south China’s Hainan province. Activities, including camping, visiting homestays, travelling along routes for outdoor sports, experiencing the culture of the Li and Miao ethnic groups were launched during the event. About 200 outdoor sports enthusiasts hiked in a rain forest, rock climbing and cycling throughout the mountain. They also took part in sports activities commonly played among the ethnic groups, while also taking part in Li brocade embroidery and drinking local rice wine.
