LAHORE:A meeting was held in the Speaker s chamber under the chairmanship of Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi on the election process of the representatives of the Election Commission.
Presiding over the meeting, Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi said that the House of the Punjab Assembly would be handed over to the Election Commission on Senate elections as per the rules. The speaker said that rules of procedure would be passed by the assembly to give the House to the Election Commission. The assembly card would be used for identification and voting in the Senate elections, he added. The speaker said all the political parties and members should co-operate with the Election Commission in the election process to complete the election process in a transparent and amicable manner. LAHORE: Minister for Health Dr Yasmin Rashid’s statement that people should get ‘vaccinated themselves against Covid-19 at their own risk’ provided fodder to the opposition and the treasury and both sides grilled her for ‘creating confusion on the issue’.
In Tuesday’s session, which again started over two hours late, Saeed Akbar Niwani of the PTI was first to wonder: “If the (Punjab) government cannot guarantee safety of the vaccines, why is it importing it? The health minister is creating confusion and the government would be held responsible if anything goes wrong”.
Samiullah Khan of the PML-N was the next to fire a salvo.
LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly session, which started two hours and 35 minutes behind the schedule on Monday, witnessed a spirited debate on price hike and control, while the treasury had to try hard to defend the government’s performance on this front.
Samiullah Khan of the PML-N led the onslaught as the debate started, reminding the treasury that inflation stood at 4.7 per cent in 2018, when the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf came to power. In 2020, he said, it spiked to 11.30pc, making life difficult for common man.
Presided over by Mian Shafi, one of the panel of chairman in the absence of Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the session also missed presence of Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, who, despite issuance of his production orders, did not attend the proceedings as he was not feeling well enough.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) lawmaker Syed Usman Mehmood expressed concern on Tuesday over delay on part of government departments in submitting replies to the queries put forth by both treasury and opposition members of Punjab Assembly.
He demanded a ruling for early submission of replies. PTI’s MPA Ahmed Khan Bhachar, who is also parliamentary secretary of local government and answered the queries of the lawmakers, seconded the stance of the PPP legislator.
Panel of Chairmen member Mian Muhammad Shafi directed the departments concerned to submit replies within the period prescribed in Rule 54 of “Rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997”.
