United Hatzalah volunteer with patient. United Hatzalah of Israel, the largest independent, non-profit, fully volunteer Emergency Medical Service in Israel, held their annual fundraising streaming event, “Saving Lives Sunday” in solidarity and support of its Israeli first response volunteers. The event raised more than $1.3 million (up more than 30% from 2020) in support of its volunteers who were honored in a tribute to their tireless work, especially in reflection of their involvement in the recent tragic event in Israel. The virtual event featured Jay Leno as the MC, with special guests United Hatzalah chairman and author Mark Gerson, and actress Rona-Lee Shimon (Fauda). It was produced in partnership with Adam Kantor of Broadway fame. Each of the participants shared a heartfelt message saluting the first responders of United Hatzalah. Learning Humility From Rabbi Zvi Ryzman On March 17, the doctors at Miami University Hospital told me that the coronavirus had gotten into my lungs and that they would have to sedate me. At the time, I hadn’t yet heard of anyone who had suffered from the disease as I had. Other people I knew who had contracted the disease were mildly sick. I thought that there was no chance that this could happen to me. I was so careful, and I was doing good things for Am Yisrael in raising money for United Hatzalah, a volunteer Emergency Medical Service organization that I founded.

At the time, I hadn’t yet heard of anyone who had suffered so much from the disease as I had. Other people I knew who had contracted the disease were mildly sick. I thought that there was no chance that this could happen to me. I was so careful and I was doing good things for Am Yisrael in raising money for United Hatzalah. My whole life has been dedicated to saving others, so how could this happen to me, I thought?
