Photo / Ethan Griffiths Hundreds poured into Whanganui s War Memorial Hall forecourt early on Sunday morning to pay their respects to servicemen and women who sacrificed their life for their country. Whanganui s Anzac Day service, first held in the city in 1935, is one of the longest-running in the country.

Photo / Bevan Conley Whanganui Collegiate School s senior debating team has claimed first place in the Central North Island championships. WCS Gold, made up of year 12 and 13 students Mia Perkins, Elliott Jones, Bridget Jones Long and John Bryant, beat Palmerston North Boys High School in the final on Sunday. Year 12 head and debating coach Costas Thrasyvoulou said it was the first time a Collegiate team had taken the top spot since 2006 and this year s competition was the largest he could remember.
