The story is written on the old Highway 40 over Donner Summit star Hurley familiar with it because of her family s links to those early days of this mountain pass, including bringing the first snow plow for winter driving. My grandfather opened the building, opened the Soda Springs Hotel on top of Donner Summit. The Donner Summit Historical Society has preserved the history of Highway 40 in pictures created in 1926. Highway 40 was also known for a time as the Victory Highway or Lincoln Highway.
