St Francis de Sales parish celebrates Mother s Day

KOHIMA: Along with the rest of the world, St. Francis de Sales (SFS) parish Kohima town celebrated Mother’s Day at the church premises on Sunday. Delivering his homily as the main celebrant during one of the Eucharistic celebrations, Rev. Fr. Mhabemo Mathew said they were observing the occasion to celebrate for all those innumerable times when “we were rescued by the heart of a loving mother.” Fr. Mathew made reference to the farewell discourse of Jesus during the Last Supper during which He told the apostles, “If you love me, keep my commandments,” which meant listening to his word and putting into practice. He narrated that Mother’s Day celebration was the fruit of a mother who protested the killing of World War I. Fr. Mathew recounted how America’s president Woodrow Wilson pronounced the second Sunday in May as Mothers’ Day, “a day dedicated not to honouring mothers, but to honour their wishes that the killing be stopped and let love and peace reign.”

Kohima Diocese celebrates Catechists Day

In St. Francis de Sales (SFS) parish in Kohima town, several catechists were felicitated during different masses held in the church. Eighty-two-year-old Vilasalie James, parish catechist, and a 35-year-old Petekhriezo Francis, catechist of the Angami community, SFS parish, were felicitated during a Eucharistic celebration. While delivering a sermon during the mass, Rev. Fr. Mhabemo Mathew, parish priest, reminded the faithful to pray for the catechists around the world serving in different parishes so that they might continue to preach the word of God. He implored God’s blessings upon the families of the catechists so that they might continue to glorify and magnify the name of Almighty in good health and that they might walk the Christian talk together with the laities. SFS parish Kohima celebrates All Souls Day

Our CorrespondentKohima, Nov. 3 (EMN): Joining the rest of the world, St. Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish, Kohima town, observed All Souls’ Day on November 2 at the common graveyard near BSF Camp, Keyake in Kohima. Celebrating the Eucharist on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Alex Gwatilo Tep, assistant priest of SFS parish, in his sermon said praying for the death has been in practice even before the comings of Jesus, despite the fact that many think that prayer for the death was brought by Catholicism or Christianity. “It is holy and wholesome thought to pray for the death that they made be free from their sins,” he said while making a reference from the Bible. Fr. Tep stated in many Naga tribal culture, there is a belief that the deaths are still living in some far-off places and that they visit people during festivals; because of which people still have the practice of leaving their share of food in the graveyard. Our CorrespondentKohima, Oct. 30 (EMN): In a run-up to All Souls’ Day programme, St. Francis de Sales (SFS) parish in Kohima town conducted a mass social work at the common graveyard near BSF Camp, Keyake, on October 29. Parishioners including parish priest Rev. Fr. Mhabemo Mathew have participated in the social work by clearing jungle at the cemetery, a resting place for hundreds of departed from different denominations and religions. It may be mentioned that SFS parish annually organise such cleanliness drive at the graveyard before the church observe All Souls’ Day on November 2 at the site. This year too, the parish will celebrate a mass at burial ground starting from 2 pm on Wednesday.
