Lawyers lament that the MHAA, which is the oldest lawyers' body in Asia, is not what it used to be in the first 100 years of its existence because of party politics.
The MHAA elections which had remained stalled since 2018, were initially scheduled for January 9, 2023. It was, however, called off at the time following allegations of booth capturing.
MHAA told the Court that it would scrutinise all applications submitted by contesting candidates to ensure that the principle of 'one bar one vote' is followed.
The Madras High Court Friday directed the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) to conduct "free and fair" elections to choose its office bearers at the earliest.
