of moments of forensic shun under president biden of watch as well we know that immigration has been probably the biggest issue looming over the visit i think the visit clearly came over a moment when it was clear that president biden really is wanting to depend on and lean on cooperation really from partners like mexico as he tries to deal with this issue of the record number of migrants trying to come no u.s. across the u.s. border the announcement last week on essentially expanding title 42, that included an important agreement from the mexico side. so we obviously know that this was a topic of discussion tonight when the two leaders met and it s also going to continue when there are meetings happening involving the canadian prime minister as well, so immigration is a top issue but also just more broadly speaking issues of trade and other areas of economic cooperation as well, john. no doubt the president will face a lot of questions on all of this and the documents
obama. there was so much tension in u.s. mexico relations during the trump years, as you remember. but they re also has been plenty of moments of friction under president biden s watch as well. and we know that immigration has been probably the biggest issue looming over this visit and i think this visit clearly came at a moment when it was clear that president biden really is wanting to depend on and lean on cooperation from partners like mexico, as he tries to deal with this issue of the record number of migrants trying to come into the u.s. across the u.s. border. this announcement from the administration last week on essentially expanding title 42. that included an important agreement from the mexico side. so, we obviously know that this was a topic of discussion tonight, when the two leaders met. it is also going to continue when there are meetings happening involving the canadian prime minister as well. so, immigration is a top issue. but also just more broadly
money off of moving people, smuggling people. there should be bipartisan agreement that this has got to stop. harris: senator marsha blackburn from the great state of tennessee is at the border in focus now. senator, first of all i really appreciate you going out at night and seeing the people cross into this country aened some of them had to have been wearing camo. the drug cartels are motivating and mobileizing them. what are you seeing? yes, harris, you are exactly right on that. the cartels are in charge of that border on the mexico side. they are dictating exactly how to come across. they are coaching people how to come across. but bear in mind, human smuggling has gone from being a half billion dollar business over the last couple of earrings years. you are looking at something
opportunity kind they want a pathway to be able to get there that means we need to have a functioning legal system. there are people i ve met along the border along the mexico side and the united states who are fleeing violent war persecution those are asylum seekers we have an obligation to asylum speakers by international human rights treaties that we are signatories to. to allow the process to continue people who want to come here to work. by the way we used the labor of immigrants in the united states. we want more to come here. we don t have any kind of system that allows people to actually seek entry into the united states that is i put it very squarely on the shoulders of republicans the republican speaker john maynard after the senate bipartisan vote in the senate for comprehensive immigration reform they would ve had some things that maybe weren t as light but they
down there two days ago and an important to the drug cartel leader is out and about. they are looking for him. several of the prison guards on the mexico side. this is just across from el paso where the president is going. your last thoughts, charlie. as this situation heats up in a new way. it is perfect symbolism what happened at the border. he handed the border to the drug cartels and criminals who now have operational control of the border. all three, mayokas, harris and biden will all be at the border. my belief is that all three of them are going to ultimately be fired in the next election for this. i this i the mayokas should be fired before then but my bigger concern, harris, is that the biden administration will fire mayokas and he will be the fall guy for what is actually a much broader responsibility that should be held to joe biden. because joe biden is the problem. not just mayokas.
