canada. it will be known as the u.s., mexico, canada agreement, or usmca. it reduces trade barriers for the u.s. and will bring all three great nations closer together in competition with the rest of the world. the u.s. mca is a historic transaction. the bottom line is this president views this clearly as a good thing. he sees it as a political winner which is why he s going to be speaking about it on the south lawn, excuse me, in the rose garden, only a short time from now. it is a positive that it does ease uncertainty that any deal has been completed. it doesn t go into effect until 2020, after the leaders sign off. it still has to be ratified by congressional leaders here in the united states. that gives the president a little window where he can rah-rah all he likes. it does affect the dairy
trade. after campaigning on i hate free trade, big capital letters in his speeches, saying nafta was a horrible deal this renegotiated nafta, which is a tweak really, just increases free trade between the u.s. and canada and mexi mexico. it s nafta on steroids. president trump doesn t hate nafta, he hates anything that any previous administration would have done. brian, the fact that it is freer trade when you go into the details, could that be one of the reasons why the market s up this morning? yes, certainly, listen, they were just looking for a deal. i think this back and forth, stephanie, as you know, probably better than i do, worked on wall street for a long time, you just want some clarity. you want to understand what you re dealing with. uncertainty is the enemy in some respects. it s kind of a tweak in some ways but to your point as well, stef, just want to have that
