NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mike Osborne) Mayor John Cooper is asking Nashville Commissioners to approve significant new spending in next year’s city budget.
During his State of Metro Address yesterday the mayor promised to make Nashville teachers the best paid in the state. Cooper called for a pay bump that would raise the average teacher salary by nearly $7,000 a year.
The mayor also called for $28 million in new transportation spending, and $22 million to promote affordable housing.
Cooper wants to hire 60 new firefighters and EMT’s, along with 48 more police officers.
