(Latvian Public Broadcasting) Rumors about the arrival of Spring appeared premature March 7 with large parts of Latvia experiencing heavy snowfall which, combined with strong winds, created blizzard conditions.
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center issued a yellow warning with wind gusts of up to 22 meters per second causing snowdrifts and making driving hazardous. With the risk of flooding in other areas, the whole country is covered by yellow warnings of one sort or another.
Weather forecasters predict that the strongest winds will blow on the coast of North Kurzeme and Vidzeme.
Nevertheless the amount of cloud is changeable, with periods of warm sunshine between the blizzards and temperatures remain fairly mild at +2 ..- 3 degrees.
