Chicago Weather: Up to 12 inches of lake-effect snow expected into Tuesday

CHICAGO (WLS) Another round of winter weather hit Chicago Monday, and will drop more than a foot of heavy lake-effect snow in some places. It s possible some areas could see 14 inches or more by the time its all over. The day began with a very intense band of snow draped according northern Cook County, according to ABC7 Meteorologist Cheryl Scott. The highest snow totals are expected in Chicago and Cook County, as well as areas along Lake Michigan, Scott said. Many areas had already seen 4 to 6 inches fall by mid-afternoon Monday. The heaviest snow was forecast to fall between 6 p.m. and midnight as a winter storm system coming from Texas spread into the area Monday evening.

CHICAGO (WLS) The Chicago area is bracing for its heaviest snowfall in well over a year as a winter storm arrives Monday night. Snow began moving in from the southwest Monday afternoon and will pick up in intensity throughout the overnight hours, ABC7 meteorologist Larry Mowry said. The heaviest snow will likely be between 7 p.m. and midnight, where snowfall rates could approach an inch per hour. Most areas can expect between 2 and 5 inches of snow by 7 a.m. Tuesday. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is likely from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Lingering lake effect snow showers could persist after 3 p.m.
