shepard: i m shepard smith. this is the fox report. it s the bottom of the hour. time for the top of the news live from vicksburg, mississippi. the full force of this region s historic flooding today hitting the town of greenville, mississippi, as engineers continue to race against the clock to shore up the levees, reinforce the floodwaters, and try to save as many homes and neighborhoods as they can. of course everybody along this river has a story. today we met carla mcray, whose friend from work lost everything. federal engineers say they re doing a good job under the circumstances, but for many it s simply too late. and farther downstream, all most can do is watch and wait and hope for the best. team fox coverage now at the bottom of the hour with meteorologist shay ryan in the weather center, but first jonathan serrie is live from
family members, last their animals. turn the camera. turn the camera on the deck. that, by the way, is brand new video coming to us from gun barrel city, texas. we just got in. they call that a rope tornado. it s one of many, many tornadoes that touched down about 30 minutes to an hour south of dallas. but there were no reports of any fatalities in those tornadoes, shep. shepard: trace gallagher, thanks. the threat is still with us. meteorologist shay ryan in the weather center. shae, how are we looking? not good at all. unfortunately we have tornado watches in effect all the way from the great lakes on down through texas. ahead of that, another round of severe storms in the northeast. that is where we have a severe thunderstorm watch. we did have warnings in place earlier but, again, the boxes that are wide open are indicating the watches. the warnings are where we will see the solid boxes popping up here. can you see that we have quite a few tornado warnings which are indicat
somehow water has not gotten inside this home. if you look right down the street water has gotten into many other homes. shepard: tonight, there are reports all over the place in arkansas, a flash flood and possible tornadoes. a storm spawning a deadly tornado about 25 miles north of little rock where emergency crews say a twister leveled an entire town. you can see from these images just how powerful these storms have become. team fox coverage. shay ryan in the weather center. trace gallagher. let s start with the flooding. this is a widespread problem? it is, shep. all the sandbags in the world couldn t hold this water back. you go from illinois and missouri and arkansas. city after city is flooded. this right here is johnson, arkansas, near fayetteville. it was almost katrinaesque. you had first spownders that were going literally home to home, door to door. pulling out children and pets and elderly residents. the rescue effort here lasted for hours. in gail, illinois, the missi
north carolina surveying the damage caused by dozens of tornados that ripped across the state over the weekend. preliminary reports say at least 21 people died. 800 homes were destroyed there. in virginia, that same storm system bringing powerful thunderstorms and tornados to the central part. state. reports of twisters touching down in at least six counties in virginia. water is a problem in northern new jersey. fast-moving rainstorms dumping more than four inches of rain over the weekend there. it is not over yet. meteorologist shay ryan is here with more. things are looking fairly calm across the nation. we do have more rain showers moving into parts of new jersey that have seen flooding. the good news it will be fairly light. the next focus is the next chance of severe storms. it doesn t look like much. we re seeing mainly rain and snow just over the rockies and heading further into our western states. again it doesn t look like much right now. but what is going to happen the col
