DWR reports first Snow Survey of the 2020-21 season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. The first snow survey of the year was conducted Wednesday at Phillips Station off Highway 50 by the Department of Water Resources and they report snowpack at 93% of normal for this time in the season at that location. They also do snow measurements at 260 other sites in the state. The snowpack is much less than average for other sections of the Sierra.
Much of October, November, and December has been dry with much less rain and snow compared to average. The US Drought monitor lists 33% of California in “Extreme” drought. This is a level 4 out of their 5 level system.
