Regulator Datatilsynet said Meta cannot harvest user data in Norway, such as users physical locations, and use it to target advertising at them, called behavioural advertising.
Norway's data protection agency said Monday it would ban Facebook and Instagram owner Meta from using the personal information of users for targeted advertising, threatening a $100,000 daily fine if it continues.
Referring to the EU s imposition of a record fine of $1.3 billion on Meta for violating GDPR s regulations on cross-border data transfers, Chandrasekhar highlighted that the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022 has similar measures.
