The Met Office warning reads: Further snow showers are expected to continue to affect parts of northeast England and northern and eastern Scotland. Whilst these are not expected to be as heavy or widespread as earlier in the week, some persistent bands of snow showers may develop in places. Accumulations of 1-3cm are likely with 5-8cm possible where more persistent bands of snow develop. Icy stretches are possible overnight where surfaces are left wet from the partial melt of lying snow during the daytime.

More heavy snow is forecast for the east and south-east of England, with the Met Office warning of bitter cold due to Storm Darcy s strong easterly winds. BBC Weather forecasters have warned more snowfall in some eastern parts of the country could see the areas hit by up to 15cm of snow on Monday. The Met Office has issued a new weather warning covering large parts of Lancashire. This came into force at 12am this morning (February 8) and will run until 11.59pm on Wednesday.

Storm Darcy is wreaking havoc across the UK after torrential downpours have caused flash floods. Travel services have been disrupted across the worst affected areas in the north of England and sandbags have been distributed to residents in parts of Yorkshire. Storm Darcy, which was named by the Dutch Met Service KNMI on Friday, has reached the UK this afternoon and is set to bring cold, strong winds of up to 55mph and snow. The Met Office has issued swathes of weather warnings across the UK as Storm Darcy is forecast to bring even more heavy snow to several areas of the country. Sunday saw gales of 50mph and heavy snow hit the nation, and this morning many areas of the UK woke up to a further dusting. The Met Office forecast indicates the South East and eastern England, in particular, will see significant snowfall today, along with areas of northern England and Scotland.
