Norfolk is set for one of its driest Aprils on record prompting warnings over tinderbox conditions that could spark wildfires.
An abnormally dry March followed by a bone-dry April means there is a higher than normal risk of fires breaking out in open areas.
Strong winds could exacerbate the spread of any fires that do break out.
The last few weeks have seen fire crews called to deal with several woodland and grass fires including in Caister, Thetford and King s Lynn, together with blazes sparked by people carelessly disposing of barbecues in dunes near Great Yarmouth and in woods near Diss.
A warning of fire risk has been issued by the Met Office for the Isle of Wight and South of England. ISLANDERS are being asked not to light bonfires, barbecues or campfires due to a warning about how severe any potential wildfire could become in the current dry conditions. The Met Office has issued a warning of very high risk for the Isle of Wight and parts of the South of England. The warning has prompted Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Control to ask people to act responsibly as we go into the weekend. The fire service said: Due to the current dry conditions we are asking everybody to act responsibly and refrain from having any bonfires, barbecues or campfires as they can easily, rapidly spread out of control.
