Middle school teacher charged for sexual assault

A middle school teacher in School District 51 has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a minor. David Hamilton, a teacher at Mount Garfield Middle School, was arrested on March 24 in relation to several alleged incidents that happened prior to and over the course of the school’s Christmas break last year. The female victim reported the alleged assault to a family member after helping Hamilton with cleaning out a closet at the school during the holiday break. According to the arrest affidavit, the victim said Hamilton attempted to kiss her on several occasions and made inappropriate contact while hugging her.

Suspect in Palisade shooting charged with attempted murder

An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting on Iowa Avenue in Palisade in early April. Joseph Gossett, 25, has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting another man in the buttocks on the evening of April 2, at an apartment building in Palisade, according to the affidavit. Gossett allegedly fired at least three bullets, striking the victim once. Another bullet penetrated an exterior wall and went through the windshield of a car parked outside the apartment building. The victim told police at the scene he had been at the apartment to gamble and had been using methamphetamines. Police reported they found drug paraphernalia in the apartment, as well as pull-tabs cards, which are used for gambling.

Grand Junction man charged with kidnapping, assault

A Grand Junction man was arrested Saturday after allegedly holding a pair of scissors to a woman’s throat and preventing her from leaving her residence. Korey Orloff, 29, was charged with second-degree kidnapping, false imprisonment and a number of assault charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, in relation to two altercations with the same victim, according to the arrest affidavit. A Grand Junction Police Department officer contacted the victim Saturday morning away from the residence. She was covered in blood, according to the report. She told the officer the first incident began around 2 a.m. when Orloff returned to the residence on 28 ½ Road intoxicated after going to a local bar.
