So 2020 was a year the University of the Third Age gave away cards – in the name of COVID.
Finding a way to disinfect playing cards, mahjong tiles and scrabble tiles to resume U3A group activities seemed an impossible feat.
U3A publicity officer Rae Halpin said the organisation had to cut out many group activities when COVID arrived last year.
“Because they were being handled by everyone, certain activities like mahjong, cards and scrabble, they were the first ones to go down because they couldn’t work out how they could make the tiles or cards sanitised,” she said.
