ALMOST all of Colchester is once against nearly Covid free, with just one area recording more than three cases in a week. According to the latest Government hotspots map, just one neighbourhood in the town recorded three or more cases in the week to May 18. Mile End and Braiswick recorded three cases during this seven day period. Every other part of the borough recorded less than three cases. This means the virus is classed as suppressed in these parts of the area. A spokesman said: A single positive case of the Indian Variant Covid-19 strain was detected in Colchester. “This one case was linked to travel from India and all the necessary self-isolation and contact tracing has been completed, swiftly and successfully containing the case.” According to the latest Government figures, Colchester s average infection rate was 19.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week to May 11. This is because there were 38 cases confirmed across the borough during this week. The infection rate has risen but remains at a low level compared with earlier in the pandemic. A total of 13 parts of the borough recorded less than three Covid cases in this week.

COLCHESTER S average Covid infection rate has more than doubled in a week, the latest figures show. Data from the week to May 9 shows the average infection rate across the borough was 19 cases per 100,000 people. This is because there were 37 cases of Covid confirmed during this week. The rate has increased from 9.2 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier, when there were 18 cases in seven days. Although the rate remains low, there are now also five areas of the town included on the Government s hotspots map. This is the largest number seen since the beginning of April. The other 15 areas continue to have less than three cases, meaning the virus is classed as suppressed in these parts of the town.

JUST one part of Colchester recorded three or more Covid cases in the latest seven day period, according to new figures. According to the latest Government hotspots map, only one neighbourhood in the borough recorded three or more cases in the week to April 29. Old Heath and Rowhedge recorded three cases in this period, the highest number in the borough. The rest of the area has recorded less than three, meaning the virus is classed as suppressed in these areas. They are not recorded on the hotspots map any longer.
