It was not the Boxing Day that Bahamian professional basketball players Dwight Coleby and Zane Knowles wanted as their respective team lost in the Turkey Basketball League – the second highest tier of men’s basketball in Turkey.
Coleby dropped in 12 points in a close 84-80 road loss for his team against Samunspor at the Mustafa Dağıstanlı Sports Hall in Samsun, Turkey. The close loss dropped Coleby and Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket to a 5-6 win/loss record on the season. They sit in the 13th position in the standings.
Knowles and his squad, Balikesir Büyükşehir Belediyespor, hosted the league leaders Akhisar Belediye Basketbol but fell 77-63. The game was played at the Kurtdereli Sports Hall in Balikesir, Turkey, and that loss dropped Balikesir to 7-5 on the season but they still rank in the top five in the standings at number four.

There was a clash between Bahamian professional basketball players in Turkey as Dwight Coleby and his team, Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket, got the better of Zane Knowles and his team, Balikesir Büyükşehir Belediyespor, 93-82, on Denizli’s home court, at Pamukkale Üniversitesi Spor Salonu, in Denizli, Turkey, on Saturday afternoon.
Both Bahamians finished the game with a baker’s dozen. Coleby, the league’s leading rebounder, was able to finish with a double-double as he pulled down a game-high 15 boards – 13 defensive and two on the offensive side to go along with his 12 points. Coleby shot 4-for-9 from the field and had one block in 27 minutes of play.

It was a busy weekend for Bahamian professional basketball players overseas as they were in action in their respective leagues.
Dwight Coleby scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in a road win for his team, Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket (4-5), as they upset Kocaeli Bşb Kağitspor (6-3), 91-72, on Sunday afternoon. The game was played at Kocaeli Atatürk Spor Salonu in Kocaeli, Turkey.
With that win, Coleby’s team now sits in the number 13 position in the Turkish Basketball League, the second highest level of basketball in Turkey. Also, they snapped Kagitspor’s five-game winning streak.
